WSIB Sponsorship- Private Schools and Private Career Colleges

The WSIB, after hearing that injured workers were concerned about the quality of upgrading and training they were receiving, has made significant changes to its former labour market re-entry (LMR) program. In early 2010, we directed the LMR service providers to use only private career colleges that are registered with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and to consider referrals to community colleges. In December, 2010, the WSIB began phasing out the LMR program and began implementing a new Work Reintegration Program.

Under our new Work Reintegration Program, WSIB Work Transition Specialists partner with injured workers and employers to achieve a return to work. We provide injured workers with Work Transition Plans that incorporate their input and choices; and, if needed, provide workers with high-quality training to equip them for their return to the workforce.

Work Transition Plans

When Work Transition Plans involve education and vocational training, injured workers may choose the training institutions they attend, as long as the institutions meet certain minimum eligibility requirements. We anticipate that some injured workers will choose private schools/colleges such as yours and, before sponsoring their attendance, we must confirm eligibility. For this reason we are asking you to provide written confirmation about your ability and willingness to comply with specific WSIB sponsorship terms.

The attached document explains the terms of WSIB sponsorship and includes a form to be completed and returned to us by April 14, 2011. Please FAX the completed and signed form to: 1-888-313-7373. If we do not receive a signed WSIB form from your institution by April 14, 2011, your institution may be considered ineligible for WSIB work reintegration sponsorship.

If you have any questions about the sponsorship terms, please send your questions to sponsorshipterms@wsib.on.ca. We will get back to you within two business days.

Billing WSIB

If sponsorship in a particular program is approved, the Work Transition Specialist will send a Sponsorship Letter to you providing details of the approved program and fees and confirming the appropriate billing service codes.

Guidelines for registering with our Provider Billing supplier (Telus) are attached to this message so that you may begin to get registered now if you have not already done so.
